A Note on Names

To learn the variants of rummy, first, try to understand the basic rules of the rummy game & how to form a valid set. In every rummy game type, 13 cards are dealt to each player and the player who makes the first successful show is considered as the winner of the game.

Pool Game, Points rummy and Gun Shot can be played between 2 or 6 players. But Deals Rummy i.e. Best of 2 & Best of 3 is played only between 2 players.

1.) Points Rummy –

It is considered as the fastest form of rummy as it lasts for only one deal and one winner takes all the prizes in the pot.  Players can win cash prizes within short period time and thus it requires a tremendous amount of skill to play this type. Rules of Points Rummy –

  • Every player has to make a minimum purchase to join the table
  • The winning hand is – One straight sequence without a Joker and the other with/without a Joker.
  • Drop will lead to – 10 * Bet amount; and Middle Drop will lead to 30 * Bet amount
  • A penalty of Full count * Bet amount will be deducted if you leave the table
  • Each game lasts for one deal & balance gets updated after every game ends.

 2.) Pool Games –

A popular game type among every rummy buffs where the player with the minimum score at the end of the game wins the cash prizes. The main objective of the game is to maintain the minimum score and player whose score reaches above 101/201 is eliminated from the game.

101 Pool Game –

  • Player with the minimum score at the end of the game is the winner
  • Drop = 20 points; Middle Drop = 40 points; Full Count=Max 80 points
  • A winning hand must have – 1 Pure Life without Joker and another Life with or without Joker.
  • Rejoin is allowed only when the score is below 79.

201 Pool Game –

  • Player with the minimum score at the end of the game is declared the winner
  • Drop = 25 points; Middle Drop = 50 points; Full Count=Max 80 points
  • A winning hand must have – 1 Pure Life without Joker and another Life with or without Joker.
  • A player making a successful show gets a score of 0; while other player gets the score of the sum of the cards they have, which are not a part of the valid set.

3.) Deals Rummy –

An exciting 13 card rummy variant played between 2 players for 2 or 3 deals. And, the player with the least score at the end of the deal will be declared the winner of the game.

Best of 3 –

  • Both the players must play 3 rounds; a 4th round is conducted in case of a tie
  • Drops and middle drops are not allowed; Full Count – 80 points
  • A player who makes a valid show at the end of the game is the winner.

Best of 2 –

  • Both the players must play 2 rounds; a 3rd round is conducted in case of a tie
  • Drops and middle drops are not allowed; Full Count – 80 points
  • A player who makes a valid show at the end of the game is the winner.
